Description
Cholesterol is tested primarily to screen for a risk of developing heart disease. It is also used to monitor the effectiveness of lipid-lowering therapies.
This test is considered a routine part of preventive healthcare because high blood cholesterol has been associated with hardening of the arteries, heart disease, and a raised risk of death from heart attacks.
Requirements: Fasting preferred (Please consult your physician). In order to ensure a quality specimen, we recommend not eating for 2-3 hours prior to your blood draw. If you must eat, try to limit intake of fatty of foods as the fat molecules can accumulate in your blood after a meal and make some lab tests inaccurate.
