Description

Creatinine is a waste product produced by muscles from the breakdown of a compound called creatine.

The creatinine blood test is used to assess kidney function. It is frequently ordered along with a BUN (blood urea nitrogen) test or as part of a basic or comprehensive metabolic panel (BMP or CMP), groups of tests that are performed to evaluate the function of the body’s major organs.

Requirements: Fasting preferred (Please consult your physician). In order to ensure a quality specimen, we recommend not eating for 2-3 hours prior to your blood draw. If you must eat, try to limit intake of fatty of foods as the fat molecules can accumulate in your blood after a meal and make some lab tests inaccurate.
